Since January, 2019, we are honoured to welcome new renowned administrators on our Board. We wish them a warm welcome!

New president

Holding a master’s degree in visual arts, Chantal Gilbert is an art cutler, sculpter, and jeweller. Over time, she has taken and offered numerous workshops  and internships in Canada and abroad. Recognized for the quality of her process and work, she was a jewellery teacher from 1989 to 2008, the chairperson of the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec (CMAQ) from 2000 to 2008, and a frequent guest of honor at abroad jurys and international events. She has received many grants, prizes, and mentions in various countries, including France, Italy, and the United States. She was awarded the Prix du Gouverneur général in 2008 and she is a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in Canada.

New vice-president and treasurer

Holding a bachelor’s degree in visual arts from the Université Laval, Yvon Noël is a sculpter, cabinetmaker, teacher, inspiring speaker, and passionate cultural manager. Involved in the development of fine crafts since 1970, he has founded the Maison des métiers d’art in 1997 and the Centre Materia in 2000. Executive director at the Maison des métiers d’art de Québec from 2001 to 2006, he has also worked many years in the museal field as the executive director of the Musée québécois de culture populaire de Trois-Rivières and the director of educational and cultural programs at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. His rallying leadership, his visionary spirit, his ability to adapt, and his creativity are the motors of innovating projects  gathering together actors of very diverse fields.


A vision to redefine

In the coming months, the Board of directors will carry a deep reflection on the Centre Materia’s vision and multiples challenges linked to the funding of its activities. The acknowledgement of exemplary practices in fine crafts and the diversity of the forms of expression are at the heart of our concerns.
