The artists will attend the opening of Recoudre on Friday, November 3, from 5 p.m.

Materia is happy to gather together two major figures of Quebecois textile arts in the exhibition Recoudre (stitching). Carole Baillargeon approaches the theme through the metaphor of se recoudre (stitching [oneself] up), evoking life’s ups and downs in an adjustment movement towards resilience. For Mireille Racine, recoudre le silence (re-stitching silence) features stories of hats and Japanese memories through sculptures that go to the essence, in silence. Stemming from Japanese Zen philosophy, the aesthetics approach of Mu and Wabi-Sabi that unite them reveal emotion, sobriety, and beauty within imperfection.

Materia is proud to pursue its mission by exhibiting the work of two renowned artists whose research has been contributing for many years to the evolution of the know-how and reflection in contemporary fine arts.

About Carole Baillargeon
In her hybrid practice, Carole Baillargeon blends together visual arts, scenography, and fine crafts.
