Québec City, January 3, 2019 – Materia starts off the year with Inventer le pays, a poetic journey by Montreal artist Christine Comeau on mobility, exile, constraint, and the physical and mental frontier that travelling creates. The opening and performance with the artist in attendance will be on Friday, January 11, 2019, as of 5 p.m.
The exhibition Inventer le pays features a series of small domes inside which are found excerpts of poems written by the artist along her travels. Domes become places of contemplation for the visitors invited to slip into moccasins and lay on their back to read the poems. Once the visitors are lying in the tents, their feet in the moccasins are visible from the outside and become a part of the installation.
With this exhibition, Materia pursues its mission by featuring an artist whose practice falls within contextual art, performed installation, clothing sculpture, and living poetry.
