Règne le souffle
An exhibition by Ito Laïla Le François
At Materia from May 18 to June 17, 2018
Opening on May 18 from 5 p.m.

Québec City, May 8, 2018 – To close its regular season, Materia is welcoming the exhibition Règne le souffle by Rimouski artist Ito Laïla Le François, from May 18 to June 17, 2018. The opening with the artist in attendance will be on Friday, May 18, from 5 p.m.

Règne le souffle gathers sculptures and installations as a set of portraits and a territory-body. Through this body of works, the artist rekindles her ties to the territory in a direct, respectful manner, moving away from the anthropocentrism that marks our relationship to the environment. Where suffering meets the sublime, she puts nature, mankind, and the natural resources industry in relation through her use of natural materials like wood, fur, and glass. Themes such as overfishing, mining, and modern agriculture are depicted in her work.

Materia is proud to pursue its mission by presenting the work of an emerging artist whose research on the cycle of life and death leads to art pieces imbued with poetry and memory.
