Opening on May 26, from 5 p.m.

Québec City, May 16, 2017 – As of May 26, Materia is welcoming the works of Toronto fabric artist and designer Lizz Aston. Join us for the opening with the artist on Friday, May 26, from 5 p.m.

Surface, Space, Shadow, Repeat! is in alignment with the artist’s desire to fill the gaps between the traditional fabric practice, contemporary art, and design. Her works are made of natural material such as Kozo paper, or more technological material like mirror acrylic or 3M Dichroic film. Lizz Aston formalizes fabric patterns by changing their scale, and questions our relation to handmade objects.

At the juncture of fine crafts and technology, this exhibition gives Materia an opportunity to showcase an emerging Canadian artist whose technical mastery fosters a reflection and a critical discourse on contemporary fine crafts.
