From January 30 to March 22, 2015, Centre MATERIA is presenting the work of glass-making artist Dominique Beaupré St-Pierre. She will be attending the opening on January 30, 2015, from 5 p.m. It will also be the occasion to launch the video vignette showing her work process, in the presence of filmmaker Geneviève Allard.

Showing great technical mastery in her work with glass, Dominique Beaupré St-Pierre is interested in materials and ideas’ processes and transformations. Her project Ce qu’il y a derrière l’écorce has allowed her to combine two of her passions, glass and plants, through long-term experimentation. The exhibition is made in part of previously unseen works, including 10 plant specimens to which are attached delicate pieces of glass. It also showcases 3 glass domes sheltering plants, as well as 7 pieces from the Jardins series produced between 2008 and 2011. The latter shows the virtuosity of the artist’s approach of her medium and already reveals her interest in nature and in the the shapes of plants.

Thanks to its unique status as an artist-run center devoted to fine crafts in Canada, MATERIA is proud to present the creations of a young Québécois artist whose work of research and experimentation is exemplary. Moreover, MATERIA’s 2015 programming is perfectly in line with Craft Year, a festival designed to promote fine crafts as key actors of our nation’s culture.

Dominique Beaupré St-Pierre has studied visual arts in Nova Scotia before specializing in fine glass-work at Espace VERRE in Montréal. She has been awarded prizes and grants, such as the François-Houdé prize that recognizes the excellence of new Montreal creations in fine crafts. Her works have been shown in Canada, in the United States, in South Korea, and have been acquired by the Ville de Montréal, the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Collection Loto-Québec, Espace VERRE and many private collections. Dominique Beaupré St-Pierre lives and works in Montreal.
