Centre MATERIA is pleased to present an exhibition of recent works by Amanda Mc Cavour, a journey into her memories.

Fascinated by the ephemeral quality of the spaces we live in, Amanda Mc Cavour recreated rooms of her previous apartments. She made delicate thread drawings of the furniture and small objects that transform an empty space into what we call home. The life size threads renderings hang from the gallery ceiling in a way that we can walk through and around virtual rooms. The fragility of the artwork is an echo of the transitory quality of our homes.

A young artist living in Philadelphia, Amanda Mc Cavour attended York University and completed a BFA in 2007. Her work was the subject of solo exhibitions in Toronto and the artist has also participated in numerous group exhibitions in Canada, United States and South Korea. She was an instructor in various art education programs’ workshops and she gave lectures across Canada.

The opening reception, Friday April 12, from 5 to 7 pm, will be an opportunity to meet Amanda Mc Cavour. MATERIA, an artist-run centre in the field of fine crafts whose mandate is to promote artistic enquiry and creation both nationally and abroad, is located at 395 boulevard Charest Est in Quebec City.
